Google Art Projects

You can now take a virtual tour of galleries in 151 major museums in 40 countries for free, without queuing, log on to the Google Art Project.

It was launch last February, with only a small number of galleries, but last week that number blew out! Google‘s image capturing technology is so good, you can zoom in on some artworks held across these museums in astonishing details, every tiny scene, every brushstroke and every hairline cracks.

Google Art Project’s website is simple, you can search by the collections, the artists, the artworks or the galleries.

Example: I’ve done a search for Paul Gauguin – The Seed Of The Areoi- 1892

Now, I enlarged the painting, amazing I can see closely the painting without having the museum guardian’s nasty eyes and without those stupid people standing in front of me.

I have to agree on one point thought, it will never replaced a visit to the museum when you can feel overwhelmed while standing in front of one the master ‘oeuvre d’art’.

But I am admiring those technologies because anyone now can have a free access to art and a free access to education and all of these from the comfort of your home.

Thank you Google, two thumbs up!
