We are so lucky to be in the 21st century with fast Internet, amazing phones and tablets. Social media is one of the best technology to interact, laugh and share our lives with friends. Meanwhile some very stupid people using social media to do some very horrible things to others I will name in this category: cyberbullying, disgusting videos and the latest Nek Nomination! Nek Nomination is new, it’s started on social media in January this year on Facebook. If you are not a teenager or do not read the news you wouldn’t know what is Nek Nomination, let me enlighten you of the one of the most stupid thing that already kill 5 teenagers. Nek Nomination when social media kills teenagers

What is Nek Nominate*

Nek Nominate, also known as neck and nominate, Nek Nominate or Neck Nomination, is an online drinking game. The original parameters of the game require the participant to film themselves drinking a pint of an alcoholic beverage, usually beer, in one gulp and upload the footage to the web. The participant then nominates two others to do the same, although a third nomination has become commonplace. The nominated person has to complete the task within 24 hours.

The game became popular in early 2014, and as it spread it escalated, with nominees performing the challenge in more extreme circumstances, drinking more potent beverages or engaging in dangerous activities either during or immediately after consuming their beverage. The British tabloid newspaper Metro reported that at least five deaths in the United Kingdom and Ireland are believed to have been directly linked to the drinking game. (*Wikipedia)

French journalist said it started in New-Zealand and Australia, oh boy! After see the document – my jaw literally dropped on the floor! Young people challenging each others on Facebook posting videos to drink alcohol until they drop and they have to name someone else (one of their friends) to take the challenge! So I did research Nek Nomination or Nek Nominate on Facebook. I was shocked – there are so many Facebook pages with photos of young teenagers covered of vomit who passed out! Where is the fun? What’s wrong with those kids?

Parents are completely powerless – finding theirs kids unconscious covered by vomit in their room.  The danger of binge drinking is alcohol poisoning underage drinkers may be at particular risk for alcohol overdose. Research shows that people under age 20 typically drink about 5 drinks at one time. Drinking such a large quantity of alcohol can overwhelm the body’s ability to break down and clear alcohol from the bloodstream. This leads to rapid increases in BAC (Blood Alcohol Content) and significantly impairs brain function.

The Daily Mirror newspaper said it’s a real problem in Britain and Ireland, Fifth Neknominate death after man downed two pints of GIN to ‘show who’s the boss’. I don’t know what else to say – I am absolutely shocked about it because I know the power of social media and how fast tennagers share information via Facebook and Twitter. Could they do something more helpful, like sharing beautiful sunset photos or love quotes?

Even myself who spend so much time on the Internet  I didn’t know about it until last week – well true I am not 18 years old and I drink with moderation a good beer or a glass of Pinot Noir – so my only goal with this article is to share the information with you. If you are a parent of teenagers, please be aware of Nek Nomination, within 3 months 5 teenagers already died and I am afraid this sinistre statistic will rise.
